Definition of pre production
pre production is the process that every film company/makers will do before they start making or working on the film. Pre production may include things like researching things for your movie things for the mise en scene,for example for a zombie movie you would need to research a isolated location and then research if you can book the area you need and work out the cost for it,the setting is a big part of a film as it establish a lot for the spectator time,mood,atmosphere and the genre of the film(iconography).You need to know the concept of the film you need a basic understanding of the genre the story line and what you need example a sci fi may need cgi(computer generated image).The main part of pre production is the planning working out the cost of everything is probably the way to start and planning so you know what you want and when you know what you want you can figure out the cost and then make plans and work out budgets.the music is a big part of a film as it establishes mood and in pre production you need to work on music (some James bond films get music done for them like sky fall or spectre) or a company/film director may want the rights to have some music in the film. Pre production allows the film crew/director to control the how the film will be made it allows them to keep in control of the movies budget and makes it easier to control the the limited time they mat have to make the film.

Life in a day 17 June 2011
A life in a day was made by Liza Marshall and Ridley Scott from Scott free productions producer of such films like Alien and Gladiator. The film was distributed by YouTube and directed by Kevin Macdonald. Life in a day is a crowd sourced documentary where people from around the world posted their life on to you tube The film includes scenes selected from 4,500 hours of footage in 80,000 submissions from 192 nations.The completed film debuted at the Sundance Film Festival on 27 January 2011 and the premiere was streamed live on YouTube. and faced a number of risks/mistakes the Kevin Macdonald regret taking/making. The risks of this projects was huge's as they had 400 good quality cameras sent to 40 countries in remote towns and villages each camera had two memory cards one to send back and one to keep Kevin wishes that he would of sent 50 cameras and sent along film makers to help those people make the film because obviously not every one they send the cameras to can make films.
The Cottage 23 February 2008
the producers for the cottage were Ken Marshal and Martin Pope, the production company involved include isle of man UK,UK film council and screen Yorkshire.Its worldwide gross was 1,626,080 and the film is know as a comedy horror thriller.And is rated a 18. the film also includes vertical integration,this is where one company is involved with in all stages of film making from production to distribution and finally exhibition.

Made using the microwave film scheme which was started to allow British film maker to follow their dream in making there films with the budget with 100,000 but limited the time you were allowed to make it to 18 days, this saw a slight increase in British social realist films, which is what shifty is, shown at a film festival and had several film companies offer to buy it,In the end the film was produced by between the eyes.

Directed by Assia Boundaoui who grew up in an Arab-American neighbourhood outside of Chicago(Illinois) most of her neighbours have been under surveillance for over a decade and started to investigate their experience whilst doing so uncovered tens of thousands of FBI pages that proved that her hometown was the subject of the largest counter terrorism investigation ever conducted in the U.S before 9/11 the operation was co-named operation Vulgar Betrayal. Boundaoui was eleven when she found her self looking at FBI agents at her doorstep asking to interview her farther A professor of maths at Chicago State University.The film funding came a project/site called kick starter which allows members of the public to put their money to new invention/project in this case the project was the feeling of being watched sourced by kick starter.

The film was distributed by universal pictures international,universal are know for distributing movies like split(20 January 2017),Atomic blond(28 July 2017) and much more.the film was designed for a more audience as it has upsetting scenes and brings up the struggles with Stephen hawking life,overall the film was ratted 12A by the BBFC.

different ways a film can get their budget

guerilla
One way to collect footage with in the film industry is to collect it in public but to you would normally have to buy out an area to collect the footage stopping the public from seeing and getting in the way, but one way some films get footage is to do a thing called guerilla filming, where you send a filming crew but mainly consisting of 1 or 2 people to go out to areas where you need a filming permit, and go and film with out one allowing the producers to save money and get footage for their film.

Vertical integration is where the production company has ownership of the means of production meaning they have complete control over the film financially and will receive all of the profits.

horizontal integration is where you increase the product of something in the same part of the supply chain and might expand to other means

generating awareness is where a film company will need finance for a film as they may not have enough money for the film or not how much money they want to have so they will do things like make you tube videos to exhibit their ideas of their film or go on a web site like kick starter where the public might chose to fund it

private funding is where a person from a company or not finds interest in you film and will decide to invest money with inn you film that they might see in a film festival

public funding might come from more of a charitable company set up to help film makers and indie films allowing a bigger range of people to express them self.
